The One Lyrics Metallica What Is Democracy Essay

A little over a year ago, we proudly reissued our first two albums remastered for the most advanced sound quality possible along with special deluxe editions including previously unreleased audio and video recordings. We promised to give that love to the entire catalog, and we’re back today with all the details about the release of Master of Puppets, coming to your favorite music retailer and Metallica.com on November 10th.

Available in both physical and digital versions (digital available on November 10th), we’ve got several options for your Metalli-pleasure... CD, vinyl, 3-CD expanded edition and deluxe box set. The 3-CD set includes the remastered album, a disc that is a combination of rough mixes, demos and an interview, and a disc featuring a mix of live songs that are sequenced into a typical set list from the Damage, Inc. tour. The limited edition deluxe box set includes unreleased demos, rough mixes, interviews and live tracks, many of which have never even been available in the collector or bootleg community and were pulled from our personal collections. There’s also a 108-page hardcover book with rare and never before seen photos and essays from those who were there with us for the wild ride. All in all, there are three LPs, ten CDs, a cassette, two DVDs, a lithograph with art by Pushead, a folder with handwritten lyrics, and if that isn’t enough to push you over the edge, we’ve also thrown in a set of six buttons (!).

Pre-order your copy now and we’ll send you a digital remastered version of “Disposable Heroes” while 3-CD and deluxe box pre-orders will also receive a download of “The Thing That Should Not Be” live at the Aragon Ballroom, Chicago, IL recorded on May 25, 1986. Several additional instant grats will be sent to all pre-orders between now and November 10th.

Deluxe box sets are limited edition collectors’ items, so get yours before they are gone! You may pre-order all the configurations at the Met Store now, available at your local record stores around the world on Friday, November 10th.

Every Friday, pop critics for The New York Times weigh in on the week’s most notable new songs and videos — and anything else that strikes them as intriguing — in the Playlist. You can listen to this playlist on Spotify here. Like this format? Let us know at theplaylist@nytimes.com.

Metallica, ‘Hardwired’

Like a star fastball pitcher in decline, Metallica pulls out a whole range of tricks to make you think the ball is moving as quick as it used to on the new single “Hardwired”: a sleek video that shows the band flashing in and out of darkness, a riff that sounds a bit too much like “Enter Sandman,” James Hetfield’s juvenile cursing. Flickers of the band’s essential thrash gifts remain here, especially in Lars Ulrich’s drumming, but mostly “Hardwired” shows a band in slo-mo. The song is the first single from “Hardwired...To Self-Destruct,” due in November, which will be Metallica’s first new album in eight years. JON CARAMANICA

Tayla, ‘Call Me Danger’

Tayla Malcolm, who goes by her first name, is an R&B singer from Birmingham, England, now also logging time in London. Before this summer her most visible turn in the spotlight was a sleek vocal performance on “Minus One,” a 2014 track by the Belgian house producer Andy Faisca (a k a A.N.D.Y.). Tayla is all set to make a stronger impression with “Call Me Danger,” her debut single. Made with Mr. Watt, a London producer and songwriter, it’s a mid-tempo strut that nods to ‘90s-era electro-pop along with a Caribbean club bounce that’s very 2016. “I’m like the fire that will never burn away,” is the song’s first line, which Tayla sings in a voice like a brass alarm bell. She brings as much bravado to the song’s chorus, though there’s room for a tiny bit of doubt in the bridge: “Maybe I’m what you want, what you want, what you want.” Maybe. NATE CHINEN

Monica, #SoGoneChallenge

Often, there’s a harshness to viral phenomena — they arrive unexpectedly, mutate quickly, spread exponentially, suffocate quickly. But there’s been a soft virality to the #SoGoneChallenge, in which various rappers drop verses over the instrumental of “So Gone,” the strutting 2003 hit by the R&B singer Monica. It took more than a week for the movement to come full circle, with Monica herself rapping and singing new lyrics over the beat, while Missy Elliott, who was a writer and producer of the original, dances in the background. But dig through the #SoGoneChallenge archives for some of the more tender rap love songs of late, like Chance the Rapper’s take, which features some real-life advice: “Leave the toilet seat down/Always keep your phone.” JON CARAMANICA

The Academic, ‘Mixtape 2003’

There are two contrasting impulses wrestling with each other in “Mixtape 2003,” the new single by the Irish band the Academic. In one corner is the restless, borderline silly optimism of early 2000s pop-punk, as captured here in the chipper drumming and the peppy tempo. And in the other is the dry reserve of the early 2000s post-punk revival à la the Strokes, heard here in the downcast guitars and the smeared-out vocals. Of course, to a relatively young and promising band, those once oppositional ideas are just texts to be mined and reframed, warring heritages be damned. JON CARAMANICA
