RE: Graduate/Undergraduate Placement, London, Strategy

Dear Ms. <Redacted>

As an aspiring strategy consultant, I wish to join a firm with the best learning environment to facilitate my professional development in junior years. Strategy&’s strong footprint in core strategic markets has motivated me to apply for the role, as I am extremely interested in strategic analysis. Furthermore, the opportunity to work within small project teams promises additional responsibilities. This fits perfectly with my intention to pursue a long-term career in consultancy, as the steep learning curve offered by Strategy& will help accelerate my professional development. My diverse background as a journalist, a soldier and a financial analyst has conditioned me with excellent adaptability and determination. I am confident that my experience and characteristics would add value to the firm’s dedication to its collegial and collaborative culture.

At Samsung Securities, I conducted extensive research on a global semiconductor firm and was intrigued by the various ways to evaluate companies and industries. Consequently, I started investing in Chinese and Korean stocks myself. My experience in different industries led me to realise that I want to pursue a career in which I can have a meaningful impact on clients. By conducting As-Is analysis on the online and mobile strategy of a global airline and by presenting benchmarks and solutions to the senior executives, I was impressed by such a wide range of projects within consulting firms and their tangible impact on client’s businesses. Having researched how years of unsound M&As led to a liquidity crisis for a global shipping company while interning at Korea Development Bank, I am eager to uncover and implement sustainable corporate strategy and business ideas.

In a highly competitive environment at Imperial College, I was able to achieve a 1st class degree in Mathematics and develop logical reasoning and quantitative skills. To transfer my analytical capabilities into the business world, I progressed to study management at London Business School and I am studying for the CFA Level II qualification to understand the financial aspect of corporate management. During my military service, I acquired highly advanced leadership and organisational skills, along with experience taking responsibility for my actions and taking important decisions. For instance, I led a team of 8 to initiate five field exercises for a 230-soldier unit. As a result, I was awarded early promotions twice and was selected as a squad leader.

A combination of my strong analytical and collaborative skills and passion for impactful change will enable me to contribute to Strategy&. Thank you in advance for the consideration of my application. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
